MINUTES OF THE 56th ANNUAL MEETING
The 56th Annual Meeting of the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District was held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church in Plymouth.
Vice-chairman Don Schultz welcomed everyone to the 56th Annual Meeting and County Councilman Ralph Booker offered the invocation. Following the buffet, Rance Glingle called the meeting to order and made the following introductions: MARSHALL COUNTY SWCD – Vice-chairman Don Schultz, his wife Sandy, Steve Martin, his wife Muriel, Craig Hawley, his wife Serena, and himself Rance Glingle; ASSOCIATE SUPERVISOR Joel Fisher; ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR - Wanda Norris, her husband Roger; INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, DIVISION OF SOIL CONSERVATION, - Resource Specialist Chris Gardner; NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION SERVICE – District Conservationist Troy Manges, MARSHALL COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS – Rex Gilliland, Don Morrison, Ralph Booker, John Benedict; MARSHALL COUNTY DRAINAGE BOARD MEMBER - Randy Glingle; MARSHALL COUNTY PURDUE EXTENSION – Bob Yoder; 1st SOURCE BANK - Connie Lemler.
Bob Yoder conducted the supervisor election. Steve Martin’s term expired with this election. Craig Hawley replaced Marc Eads on the board this past fall and will run for a temporary elected position. After Bob explained the election procedure, the election committee nominated Steve Martin and Craig Hawley for the elected supervisor position and the temporary elected position. There were no nominations from the floor. A motion was made to close the nominations, it was seconded and carried. Steve was elected as the elected supervisor and Craig was elected for the temporary elected position. The election committee consisted of Don Schultz, Tyson Edwards, and Bob Yoder.
WNDU-TV Chief Meteorologist Mike Hoffman gave a presentation on his experiences as a weather forecaster as well as answering several questions about the recent weather trends and future forecasts.
Indiana Farm Bureau and Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance president Don Villwock gave a presentation on Agriculture and where it is headed. He also talked about the tour he took of Marshall County earlier in the day.
Steve Martin recognized the top three teams in the County 4H/FFA Soil Judging Contest. Placing first in the contest was a FFA team from Argos. Team members were Ally Rospopo, Emily Rospopo, Seth Michel and Abby Cohagen. Second place went to another FFA team from Argos. Team members were Harrison Partin, Bhodi Yanez, , Greg Davis and Luke Kepler. There was a tie for Third place - another FFA team from Argos. Team members were Ben Pask, Jenny Fishburn, Ryan Moorfield and Seth Williams. All three Argos FFA teams were coached by Mike Jones. The other Third place team was the Plymouth 4H. Team members were Trenton Pletcher, Tucker Pletcher, Julia Lipply and Jason Slonaker. They were also coached by Cindy Slonaker.
First, second, and third place medallions were presented to the individual award winners and plates were given to the schools for their previously awarded plaques. Plymouth 4H received a plaque and plate. Seth Michel won the savings bond presented by the Marshall County SWCD.
Councilman Ralph Booker did the swearing-in of Steven Martin and Craig Hawley.
Following the door prize drawing, Don thanked everyone for coming and adjourned the meeting.
